Do Mexico passport holders need a visa to visit Germany (Schengen)?

Mexican ordinary passport holders can travel to Germany visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the Schengen area. Germany is part of the Schengen area, and Mexico is on the EU/Schengen visa-exemption list for ordinary passport holders. As of 30 May 2026, a Mexican citizen with a valid ordinary passport may enter Germany for tourism, family visits, or business without applying for a visa, staying up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. This 90-day allowance counts cumulatively across ALL Schengen countries, not just Germany. No work is permitted under visa-free entry. Two changes are approaching but are NOT yet in force on this date: the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), a biometric border-registration system being phased in, and ETIAS — a mandatory pre-travel authorisation (EUR 20, valid 3 years) scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026 and become required only after a transition period in 2027. Until ETIAS is operational, no online authorisation is needed; travelers simply present a passport meeting Schengen validity rules. Always carry proof of onward travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds, as border officers may request them.
