🇰🇷South Korea🇸🇴SomaliaKR-SO South Korea to Somalia visa requirements
A South Korean ordinary passport holder needs a Somalia eVisa (eTAS), obtained online before travel. However, the Korean government (MOFA) has designated Somalia a Level 4 Travel Ban country — Korean nationals are legally prohibited from entering without special MOFA passport-use permission, and tourism is not accepted as a valid reason. As of mid-2026, Somalia requires an electronic visa / travel authorization (eVisa/eTAS) for nearly all foreign visitors, a system the Federal Government of Somalia made mandatory on 1 September 2025. South Korea is not on the short exemption list (only Rwanda and Malaysia enter visa-free), so a Korean ordinary passport holder must apply online through the official portal (evisa.gov.so / etas.gov.so) before departure; routine visa-on-arrival at Mogadishu's federal airport has been discontinued. The standard tourist eVisa is single-entry, allows a 30-day stay, is valid 90 days from issue, costs roughly USD 60-65, and is processed in about 3-7 working days. CRITICAL OVERLAY: this is a destination-side answer only. The Republic of Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Somalia under its highest travel category (Level 4 — Travel Ban / "여행금지"). Under Article 17 of the Korean Passport Act, a Korean national who enters a travel-banned country without prior special permission to use the passport faces criminal penalties (up to 1 year imprisonment or a fine up to KRW 10 million). Permission is granted only for narrow purposes (humanitarian, official, urgent business) — never ordinary tourism. Somalia is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers should treat this route as effectively closed for tourism and consult MOFA before any travel.
