Japan to Zambia visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Zambia. Since 1 January 2025, Japan is on Zambia's visa-exempt list, allowing visa-free entry for up to 90 days within any 12-month period. A Japanese citizen with an ordinary passport can travel to Zambia for tourism without applying for a visa in advance and without paying a visa fee. Under Statutory Instrument No. 78 of 2024, Zambia waived visa requirements for nationals of 53 additional countries effective 1 January 2025, bringing the total visa-exempt list to roughly 167 countries/territories. Japan is confirmed on this list by the Zambia Department of Immigration. Visa-exempt visitors are entitled to a free stay of up to 90 days in any 12-month period from the date of first entry. At immigration, the passport must be valid for at least 6 months with at least 3 blank pages, and travelers should carry proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. Note that visa-free entry is for tourism and short business/social visits only and does not authorize employment. A separate KAZA UNIVISA (covering Zambia and Zimbabwe, plus day trips to Botswana) remains available at around US$50 for travelers combining regional itineraries, but it is not required for a Japanese citizen visiting only Zambia. Yellow fever vaccination is not generally required when arriving directly from Japan but may be requested if arriving from or transiting an endemic country.
