Japan to Ukraine visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist stays in Ukraine. They may enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Japan is on Ukraine's visa-free list. Holders of an ordinary Japanese passport can enter Ukraine for tourism without any visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival, and may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. No application or fee is required before travel; you simply present a valid passport and supporting documents at the border. IMPORTANT WARTIME CONTEXT (as of mid-2026): Ukraine remains under martial law, its civilian airspace is closed, and there are no commercial passenger flights to Kyiv, Lviv, or Odesa. Travelers must enter overland (typically by train or bus from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, or Moldova). The visa-free policy itself is unchanged, but Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs maintains a high-level travel advisory (evacuation/avoid-all-travel for much of the country). Ukraine is NOT in the Schengen area and is NOT covered by ETIAS, so neither the Schengen 90/180 rule nor an ETIAS authorization applies to a trip to Ukraine itself (though transit through Schengen states en route may have its own rules for other nationalities; Japan is visa-free for Schengen too).
