Japan to Tajikistan visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders can enter Tajikistan visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism. No visa or e-visa is needed for short stays. Since 1 January 2022, Tajikistan grants unilateral visa-free entry to citizens of 52 countries, including Japan, for stays of up to 30 days. A Japanese ordinary passport holder visiting for tourism or a short visit needs only a passport valid for at least 6 months with sufficient blank pages — no visa, e-visa, or visa-on-arrival is required for stays within 30 days. The 52-country list was confirmed by the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and remains in effect as of 2026. Travelers who want to stay longer than 30 days, need multiple entries, or plan to visit the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) should use the official e-visa portal at evisa.tj: a single-entry tourist e-visa costs about USD 30 and allows up to 60 days within a 90-day window, with an optional GBAO permit for an extra USD 20. The GBAO permit is mandatory for the Pamir region regardless of visa-free status, so overland Pamir Highway travelers must obtain it (via the e-visa add-on or locally). Entry is permitted at international airports and land borders. Note that Tajikistan is in Central Asia and is not part of the Schengen area, so Schengen/ETIAS rules do not apply.
