Japan to Suriname visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Suriname for stays up to 90 days. However, you must pay a mandatory Entry Fee (USD 50 / EUR 50 single entry) online via VFS Global before you travel. The Entry Fee is an entry authorization, not a visa. Suriname is visa-free for Japanese ordinary passport holders for tourism and family visits of up to 90 days, under a visa exemption that dates back to 1974 and was reinforced by the visa-waiver policy effective 1 July 2022. Japan is NOT on Suriname's visa-required exception list (which includes countries such as India, Venezuela, China-mainland visa categories, and several African and Asian states), so Japanese travelers do not apply for a visa or the e-Tourist Card visa. Instead, almost all visa-exempt visitors, including Japanese nationals, must obtain and pay a mandatory Entry Fee online before arrival. The Entry Fee is administered by VFS Global, the official partner of the Government of Suriname. The single-entry Entry Fee is USD 50 or EUR 50 (plus a VFS Global service fee of roughly USD/EUR 8), valid for one entry and a stay of up to 90 days. A multiple-entry option (up to 5 entries within a 3-month window) costs USD 75 / EUR 75. The fee can be paid online via the official VFS Global e-Visa portal, and at certain land/river border posts (French Guiana crossings and the Guyana ferry). Suriname is in South America and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Travelers need a passport valid for at least 6 months, proof of onward/return travel, and the paid Entry Fee voucher. The Entry Fee does not cover work, study, internships, or business beyond tourism/family visits, which require a proper visa.
