Japan to Solomon Islands visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa in advance for the Solomon Islands. Japan is on the list of countries whose nationals are issued a free visitor permit on arrival, valid for up to 3 months within any 12-month period, for tourism and short visits. A Japanese ordinary passport holder can travel to the Solomon Islands for tourism without applying for a visa beforehand. On arrival at an authorised port of entry (typically Honiara's Henderson International Airport), immigration officers issue a free visitor permit to nationals of Japan and around 40 other countries/territories. The permit allows a stay of up to three (3) months in aggregate within any 12-month period and may be extended for a further period of up to 3 months where special circumstances justify it. There is no advance application, no online portal, and no ETA/eVisa for ordinary tourist visits. Travellers must, however, satisfy standard entry conditions at the border: a passport valid for at least six months beyond the intended departure date with blank pages, a confirmed return or onward air ticket, and proof of sufficient funds for the stay. The Solomon Islands is in Oceania (Melanesia) and is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. Because the permit is granted at the discretion of the border officer rather than guaranteed in advance, this is best classified as a visa-on-arrival (free visitor permit) regime. Travellers should confirm current rules and any health/entry requirements with the Solomon Islands Immigration Division shortly before departure.
