Japan to Poland visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do not need a visa for short visits to Poland. Poland applies Schengen rules, so eligible Japanese travellers may stay visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS is not in operation as of 2026-06-21; it is expected to start in the last quarter of 2026, while the EES is already fully operational. Poland is part of the Schengen Area and applies the common EU short-stay rules. Japan appears in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, whose nationals are exempt from the Schengen short-stay visa requirement for stays of no more than 90 days in any 180-day period, and Poland's official visa-free list also includes Japan. The 90/180 limit is cumulative across the Schengen Area, not a Poland-only allowance. A Japanese ordinary passport holder must still meet standard entry conditions: the passport should be issued within the previous 10 years and valid at least 3 months after the intended departure from the Member States, and the traveller may be asked to show purpose of stay, accommodation, sufficient funds, and return or onward travel. ETIAS is currently not in operation and no applications are collected as of this verification date; the European Commission says it will start in the last quarter of 2026, with a EUR 20 fee once operational, and EUR-Lex guidance states that approvals are normally valid for multiple entries for 3 years or until the travel document expires. The Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational across Schengen on 10 April 2026 and registers non-EU short-stay travellers' travel document data plus facial image and fingerprints instead of relying on passport stamps. Work, study, residence, paid activity, or stays beyond the short-stay allowance require the appropriate Polish visa, work authorisation, or residence permit.
