Japan to New Zealand visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders are visa-waiver eligible for New Zealand, but must obtain an NZeTA before travel and pay the NZD 100 IVL. Visitor stays are up to 3 months. Japan is on New Zealand's visa-waiver list, so Japanese ordinary passport holders can travel without applying for a visitor visa first. They must, however, hold an approved New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority (NZeTA) before boarding and must meet border requirements for a Visa Waiver Visitor Visa on arrival. The visitor stay is up to 3 months per visit, with a maximum of 6 months in any 12-month period. The NZeTA costs NZD 17 through the official mobile app or NZD 23 through the website, and most Japanese visitors also pay the NZD 100 International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL) at the same time. The NZeTA is valid for multiple trips for up to 2 years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first. Travellers need a passport valid for at least 3 months after planned departure, onward/return travel, sufficient funds, health and character eligibility, and a New Zealand Traveller Declaration. Visitor entry does not allow work in New Zealand, except limited remote work for an overseas employer/client; study is limited to up to 3 months.
