Japan to Namibia visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Namibia. Since 1 April 2025 Japan lost visa-free access, but Namibia offers a visa-on-arrival for non-African Union nationals (NAD 1,600), which can be obtained at major airports/borders or applied for online in advance through the official e-VoA portal. As of 1 April 2025, Namibia restructured its visa policy on the principle of reciprocity, ending visa-free entry for 30-plus countries whose nationals require visas for Namibians. Japan is among the affected non-African Union nationalities. Japanese ordinary passport holders traveling for tourism must now obtain a visa-on-arrival, priced at NAD 1,600 (about US$85-90). The same visa is available through Namibia's online Visa-on-Arrival portal (eservices.mhaiss.gov.na/visaonarrival), launched in March 2025, which the Ministry of Home Affairs strongly recommends applicants use before travel to avoid queues and the risk of being turned away. The visa is issued at Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek), Walvis Bay, and several high-volume land borders such as Katima Mulilo and Ngoma. The default stamp is typically 30 days, with up to 90 days possible at the immigration officer's discretion. Passports must be valid at least six months beyond entry with at least three blank pages, and travelers should hold a return ticket, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds, and travel/medical insurance. Because this is a recent change and sources occasionally lag, travelers should confirm current rules on the official portal shortly before departure.
