Japan to Moldova visa requirements

Japanese ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourist visits to Moldova. They can enter visa-free and stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Japan is on Moldova's list of visa-exempt nationalities. An ordinary Japanese passport holder may enter Moldova for tourism or business without any visa, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival, and stay for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. Moldova is NOT part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here — Moldova operates its own independent 90/180 visa-free regime. Moldova is an EU candidate country but maintains its own border and visa system. At entry, travelers should hold a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date, and may be asked for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds (roughly EUR 30 per day). No advance application, government fee, or online registration is required for the visa-free stay. To stay longer than 90 days or for work/study, a long-stay visa or residence permit must be arranged through the Moldovan Bureau for Migration and Asylum. Recent (2025) Moldovan visa-policy changes affected Ecuador and Cuba (exemptions revoked) but did not affect Japan, whose visa-free status remains in force as of mid-2026.
