Japan to Egypt visa requirements
Japanese ordinary passport holders need a visa for Egypt. The most predictable route is the official Egypt e-Visa before travel; ordinary passport holders may also use visa on arrival at airports such as Cairo. Japanese ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Egypt for ordinary short visits. Egypt's official e-Visa FAQ lists Japan among the nationalities that may apply online and lists tourist e-Visa fees of USD 30 for single entry and USD 65 for multiple entry. The official portal says the application must be created at least 7 days before departure and paid online by Visa, MasterCard or another debit card. On arrival, Egypt requires a passport valid for at least 6 months from the arrival date, an e-Visa printout, a travel itinerary, hotel bookings or details of places to visit, and a supporting letter for business or family visits where applicable. Japan's MOFA overseas safety page confirms that Japanese ordinary passport holders need a visa and may obtain it in advance from an Egyptian mission, on arrival at Cairo airport and other entry points, or online through the e-Visa portal; it also notes that the arrival option is for ordinary passports only, allows a 30-day stay, may require a return ticket, and needs 6 months passport validity. For visa on arrival, budget USD 30 cash: GOV.UK's current Egypt entry advice says approved airport kiosks sell the visa for USD 30 cash only, while Japan MOFA still carries an older 2024 note quoting USD 25, so verify the current airport cash fee before departure. A free South Sinai-only permission may be granted at Sharm El Sheikh for stays limited to the Sinai resort area for up to 15 days, but it is not valid for travel to Cairo or the rest of Egypt.
