Do Japan passport holders need a visa to visit DK?
No visa needed. Japanese ordinary passport holders can enter Denmark visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen short-stay rules. Denmark is a member of the Schengen Area, and Japan is on the EU's list of visa-exempt third countries. As of 30 May 2026, Japanese ordinary passport holders may travel to Denmark for tourism, business, or short visits without a visa and stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen Area. No prior application or fee is currently required — just a valid passport. The only change on the horizon is ETIAS, the EU's travel authorisation for visa-exempt nationals, which is scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026 (Q4 2026) with mandatory enforcement phasing in afterward. Until ETIAS is live, Japanese travelers need nothing beyond their passport. Make sure the passport is valid for at least three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen Area and was issued within the previous 10 years. The 90-day allowance is cumulative across all Schengen countries, not per country, so time spent in other Schengen states counts toward the limit.
