Japan to Cyprus visa requirements

No visa needed. Japanese ordinary passport holders can enter Cyprus visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Cyprus is an EU member state but is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so it keeps its own border controls and stamps passports on entry. Japan is on the EU/Cyprus visa-exemption list (Annex II), allowing ordinary Japanese passport holders to visit for tourism without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Importantly, because Cyprus is outside Schengen, the 90 days you spend in Cyprus are counted separately from the 90/180 days allowed in the Schengen Area. As of 1 June 2026, no electronic travel authorization is required: ETIAS is not yet operational (scheduled to launch in the last quarter of 2026, with a transitional grace period before it becomes mandatory around 2027). Once ETIAS goes live, Cyprus is expected to be one of the covered countries, and Japanese travelers will then need an approved ETIAS in addition to a valid passport. For now, travelers only need a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date and issued within the previous 10 years, plus proof of sufficient funds, accommodation, and a return/onward ticket if requested at the border.
