At the port of entry, Bahamian immigration officers grant a visitor's stay based on a valid passport, a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Passports should be valid for at least six months at the time of entry. The visa-free permission is strictly for tourism, business meetings, visiting friends/relatives, and similar non-remunerated short-term activities; it does not authorize employment or paid work. Travelers leaving via a U.S. gateway should note that a U.S. pre-clearance facility operates at Nassau and Freetown airports, and onward transit through the United States separately requires U.S. ESTA. As of 2026 there is no ETIAS-type requirement (the Bahamas is not in the Schengen area), and no scheduled change to the visa-free arrangement for Japan.
