Italy to El Salvador visa requirements

Italian passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in El Salvador. As an EU citizen you enter visa-free; you simply buy a US$12 tourist card on arrival and can stay up to 90 days under the CA-4 regional rule. Italy is a European Union member state, and all EU nationals are on El Salvador's visa-exemption list, so Italian ordinary-passport holders travel to El Salvador visa-free for tourism. No advance application, eVisa or embassy appointment is needed. On arrival at the airport or land/sea border you purchase a tourist card (Tarjeta de Turismo) for US$12, payable in cash US dollars (the US dollar is El Salvador's official currency). The card is valid for 90 days, and that 90-day allowance is shared across the CA-4 bloc (El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua) under the 2006 Central America-4 Border Control Agreement — time spent in any of the four countries counts toward the same 90-day total. Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months and have a blank page. You may be asked for proof of onward/return travel and sufficient funds. Extensions are possible for a fee from local immigration (Dirección General de Migración y Extranjería) if you need longer than 90 days. As of June 2026 there have been no changes removing this visa-free access.
