Italy to Moldova visa requirements

No visa required. Italian (EU) passport holders can enter Moldova visa-free for tourism and short visits for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Italian citizens, as nationals of an EU member state, enjoy visa-free access to the Republic of Moldova. They may enter, transit, and stay for tourism or short visits for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period without obtaining a visa in advance or on arrival. Moldova is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to a trip to Moldova; Moldova operates its own independent visa-free regime that mirrors a 90/180 day allowance. The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists Italy among the states whose citizens are exempt from visas for entry, exit, and transit. Italians may travel on a valid passport (or, as EU citizens, a machine-readable national ID card) that is valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure date. Border officers may ask for proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds. No fee, eVisa, or visa-on-arrival is required for short tourist stays. To stay longer than 90 days or to work/study, a residence permit or appropriate long-stay visa must be arranged. As of early 2025, Moldova removed Ecuador and Cuba from its visa-free list, but no changes affect EU/Italian citizens, whose visa-free status remains in force as of 2026.
