Italy to Latvia visa requirements

An Italian citizen needs no visa to travel to Latvia. Both Italy and Latvia are EU and Schengen member states, so Italians travel under EU freedom of movement with a valid passport or national ID card and face no border checks on internal Schengen borders. Italy and Latvia are both members of the European Union and the Schengen Area. As an EU citizen, an Italian passport holder enjoys the right of free movement: they may enter Latvia without a visa using a valid Italian passport or national identity card, and there are no systematic border controls when arriving from another Schengen country. For tourism and short visits there is no time limit imposed under the Schengen 90/180 rule, because that rule applies to third-country (non-EU) nationals; EU citizens may stay in Latvia for any period, though stays beyond 3 months require registering and obtaining a registration certificate from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP). ETIAS, the European travel authorisation launching for visa-exempt non-EU travellers, does NOT apply to EU citizens, so Italians will never need ETIAS for Latvia. The only practical requirement is carrying a valid travel document; no fee, no application, and no advance authorisation is needed.
