Italy to Iraq visa requirements

Italian passport holders need an eVisa to visit Federal Iraq for tourism. Since 1 March 2025, Iraq suspended visa-on-arrival for 37 nationalities (Italy included) and now requires an electronic visa obtained in advance via the official portal evisa.iq before boarding. As of mid-2026, an Italian (IT) ordinary passport holder traveling to Iraq (IQ) for tourism requires an eVisa for Federal Iraq. This is a recent change: until 28 February 2025, many Western nationals could obtain a visa on arrival, but effective 1 March 2025 Iraq's Ministry of Interior suspended visa-on-arrival for 37 countries — including Italy and all EU states — and made the electronic visa (eVisa) mandatory. Italians must apply online at the official portal evisa.iq before departure; airlines will not board passengers without an approved eVisa. The eVisa is a single-entry permit allowing a stay of up to 60 days, with a total cost of roughly USD 158 (about 206,000 Iraqi dinars) that bundles the visa fee with mandatory travel health insurance. Standard processing is typically 24-48 hours, though travelers are advised to apply at least a week ahead. A passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry is required. Note one important regional distinction: the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (entry via Erbil or Sulaymaniyah) operates its own system and still offers visa on arrival / a separate regional eVisa, but a Kurdistan-region permit does not by itself authorize travel into Federal Iraq. Because Iraq is not a Schengen country, the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. Given the firm, well-documented eVisa mandate, the verdict is eVisa.
