Italy to Israel visa requirements

Italian passport holders do NOT need a traditional visa for short tourist stays in Israel, but since 1 January 2025 they MUST obtain an ETA-IL (Electronic Travel Authorization) online before travel. It costs NIS 25, is valid for 2 years (or until passport expiry), and allows stays of up to 90 days per visit. Israel is not a Schengen country and is outside the EU, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply to entry into Israel. Italy is on Israel's list of roughly 90+ visa-exempt countries, so Italian ordinary passport holders are not required to obtain a consular visa for tourism. However, Israel rolled out a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization called ETA-IL, which became compulsory for all visa-exempt nationals (including EU citizens such as Italians) for travel from 1 January 2025. The ETA-IL must be approved before boarding; airlines deny boarding to passengers without it. Application is fully online via the official PIBA portal, costs NIS 25, and most approvals are issued within minutes though they can take up to 72 hours. An approved ETA-IL is valid for two years (or until the passport expires, whichever is sooner) and permits multiple entries, each for a tourist stay of up to 90 days. Italian passports should be valid for at least six months beyond the intended stay. Final admission and the exact length of stay are always at the discretion of the Israeli border officer, who issues an electronic entry permit (Form B/2) rather than a passport stamp.
