Italy to Gabon visa requirements

Italian passport holders need a visa for Gabon. The recommended route is the official online e-Visa (DGDI), which is issued within about 72 hours and is valid for air arrivals at Léon Mba International Airport in Libreville. A visa on arrival is also available, but the e-Visa is the safer, modern channel. Gabon is not visa-free for Italian (Italy/EU) ordinary passport holders, and it is not part of the Schengen area, so no 90/180 or ETIAS rules apply. The standard path is the official e-Visa run by the Direction Générale de la Documentation et de l'Immigration (DGDI) at evisa.dgdi.ga. Travelers apply online with their passport bio page and a recent photo; the e-Visa is typically issued within 72 hours and is valid only for arrivals by air at Léon Mba International Airport (LBV) in Libreville. The standard fee is EUR 70 (approx. 45,000 XAF) plus a EUR 15 file-processing fee for a single-entry visa valid 1-3 months; a 6-month multiple-entry option costs EUR 185 (approx. 120,000 XAF) plus the EUR 15 fee. Note that for much of 2025 the visa fee component still had to be paid in cash on arrival while Gabon migrated to full online payment, so travelers should confirm the current payment method on the portal. A short-term FREE tourist e-Visa promotion ran July 1 to September 30, 2025 and has since expired. A separate visa on arrival (introduced October 2017) remains available for many nationalities including Italians, but the e-Visa is recommended to avoid uncertainty at the border. Importantly, in December 2025 Gabon suspended visa issuance to U.S. citizens in reciprocity with U.S. measures; this does NOT affect Italian nationals. Required supporting items generally include a passport valid at least 6 months, proof of accommodation, return ticket, sufficient funds, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate (mandatory for entry).
