SIGEMIG is Bolivia's online migratory pre-registration system. Since mid-2025 it is mandatory and free for all travelers, who must complete it before arrival and present the QR code at the border.

Q: How long can I stay in Bolivia?

Up to 90 days within a single calendar year. This is an annual cap, so multiple short trips count toward the same 90 days. Extensions can be requested at a migration office.

Q: Is there any fee to enter Bolivia as an Italian tourist?

No. There is no visa fee and SIGEMIG registration is free. Fines (up to 250 BOB) only apply for overstays or failure to register.

Q: Does the Schengen 90/180 rule or ETIAS apply to Bolivia?

No. Bolivia is in South America and not part of the Schengen Area, so Schengen rules and ETIAS are irrelevant. Bolivia applies its own 90-days-per-calendar-year rule.

Italian passport holders do NOT need a visa for tourism in Bolivia. Italy is an EU member state, which places it in Bolivia's Group 1 (visa-exempt) category. Italian tourists may enter Bolivia without a visa and stay up to 90 days per calendar year. How to apply
