🇮🇹Italy🇦🇫AfghanistanIT-AF Italy to Afghanistan visa requirements
Italian passport holders need a visa for Afghanistan. As of March 2026, Afghanistan operates an online tourist e-Visa through the E-Afghans portal, which Italian citizens can apply for from Italy without visiting an embassy. Afghanistan is not visa-free for any nationality, and Italian ordinary passport holders require a visa for a short tourist visit. In March 2026 the Taliban-administered authorities launched an online tourist e-Visa via the E-Afghans portal (eafghans.com), open to citizens of nearly all countries including Italy. The e-Visa is single-entry, permits a stay of up to 30 days, and is valid for 90 days from issuance. Critically, it is currently accepted ONLY for arrival by air through Kabul International Airport (Hamid Karzai International Airport); land border crossings do not yet accept the e-Visa. Total cost is about USD 131.71 (an USD 8 application fee plus an USD 123.71 visa fee that includes a USD 3.71 processing charge). Standard processing runs 1-3 weeks, with an express option (around 1 business day) available for a higher fee. Travelers may alternatively obtain a paper visa from a Taliban-recognized Afghan embassy or consulate (e.g., Rome, Dubai, Islamabad), which typically requires a letter of invitation from a licensed Afghan tour operator. Passport must be valid 6+ months with blank pages. Note: Afghanistan carries the highest travel-risk warnings (Italy's Farnesina and the U.S. State Department advise against all travel); local laws on dress, photography, and conduct are strictly enforced.
