India to Montenegro visa requirements

Indian ordinary passport holders need a visa to visit Montenegro. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel. However, if you hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Japanese, or New Zealand visa or residence permit, you may enter Montenegro for up to 30 days without a separate Montenegrin visa. As of mid-2026, Indian citizens with ordinary passports require a short-stay (type C) visa to enter Montenegro for tourism. Montenegro is an EU candidate that operates its own visa policy aligned with Schengen standards, but it is NOT part of the Schengen Area and NOT covered by ETIAS. Because Montenegro has no resident embassy or consulate in India, applications are submitted through the VFS Global Montenegro Visa Application Centre in New Delhi (documents are forwarded to a Montenegrin mission abroad). A widely used alternative: travelers who already hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, Irish, Canadian, Australian, Japanese or New Zealand visa or residence permit (or an APEC Business Travel Card) may enter and stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days without obtaining a Montenegrin visa, provided that supporting visa/permit remains valid for the whole stay. Standard processing runs about 10 working days but can extend to 30 or even 60 days. Montenegro tightened its visa policy through 2025 (suspending visa-free access for several countries) as part of EU accession alignment, but this did not change India's status, which has long been visa-required.
