Do India passport holders need a visa to visit Finland?
Indian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Finland for tourism. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival option, and ETIAS does not apply to Indian citizens. Finland is a member of the Schengen Area, and India is not on the Schengen visa-exempt list. An Indian ordinary passport holder traveling to Finland for tourism or a short visit must obtain a Schengen Uniform Short-Stay Visa (Type C) before departure. This visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are submitted in person through VFS Global visa application centres in India (New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata) when Finland is the main destination, including biometric (fingerprint and photo) collection. The visa fee is EUR 90 for adults plus a VFS service fee, and standard processing takes about 15 working days from the date the file reaches the Finnish mission. Note that ETIAS — the new EU travel authorisation expected to launch in late 2026 — is only for visa-exempt nationalities and does NOT replace the visa requirement for Indian citizens; Indians continue to apply for a full Schengen visa.
