Israel to Italy visa requirements

Israeli ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist trips to Italy. As a Schengen visa-exempt nationality, Israelis may enter Italy and the wider Schengen Area for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet operational (expected late 2026), so no pre-travel authorization is required right now. Italy is part of the Schengen Area, and Israel is on the list of third countries whose nationals are exempt from the Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa. An Israeli ordinary passport holder can therefore travel to Italy for tourism, business, family visits, or transit without applying for a visa in advance, and be admitted at the border for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area (not per country). Travelers must still carry a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended departure (6 months recommended) and issued within the last 10 years, plus supporting documents border officers may request: return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and proof of sufficient funds. The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will eventually require visa-exempt nationals, including Israelis, to obtain an online travel authorization (about EUR 7, valid up to 3 years) before entering the Schengen Area. As of June 2026 ETIAS is NOT yet operational; the EU expects it to launch in the last quarter of 2026, with a transitional grace period afterward. Until it is formally mandatory, no ETIAS is needed. The new Entry/Exit System (EES) for biometric border registration is being phased in and does not change the visa-free status. If staying longer than 90 days, or for work/study, a national long-stay visa (Type D) is required instead.
