Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit NL?
Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to the Netherlands for tourism. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival option, and Indonesia is not eligible for ETIAS. The Netherlands is part of the Schengen Area, and Indonesia is on the EU's visa-required list. An Indonesian ordinary passport holder must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa for tourism before departure. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are submitted through VFS Global centres in Jakarta, Bali, or Surabaya, after booking an appointment online. The standard visa fee is EUR 90 for adults (EUR 45 for children aged 6-12, free under 6), plus a VFS Global service fee. Required documents include the application form, a recent biometric photo, a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay (issued within the last 10 years), travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, confirmed flight and accommodation bookings, and proof of sufficient funds (about EUR 55 per day). Standard processing is around 15 calendar days but can take up to 45 days, so apply early (up to 6 months before travel, and no later than 15 days before). Note: ETIAS, launching in late 2026, does NOT apply to Indonesian nationals because Indonesia is not visa-exempt; the traditional Schengen visa remains required.
