Indonesia to Libya visa requirements

Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a visa to enter Libya. Libya launched a tourist eVisa in 2024, applied for online before travel, but most tourists must also be sponsored by a licensed Libyan tour operator or local host. There is no visa-free or visa-on-arrival channel for Indonesians. As of 2026, Indonesia (ID) is not on Libya's short visa-exempt list, which covers only Tunisia, Algeria, and limited age-based exemptions for Egypt and Turkey. Indonesians traveling for tourism must obtain a visa in advance. Libya introduced an electronic visa (eVisa) system in March 2024 through evisa.gov.ly, offering a single-entry tourist visa typically valid for around 90 days from issue with a stay of up to 30 days, for roughly USD 63 plus service charges. Crucially, Libya does not permit fully independent tourism: applicants generally need a licensed Libyan tour operator or local sponsor to support the application and an invitation/itinerary. Travelers must also hold a passport valid at least 6 months, proof of onward travel, accommodation, sufficient funds (typically at least 1,000 Libyan Dinars on arrival unless on a sponsored package), and travel insurance. Indonesia's foreign ministry maintains a long-standing travel warning advising citizens to avoid Libya due to ongoing security instability, so commercial routing, embassy guidance, and tour-operator coordination are essential. Where the eVisa is unavailable for a given case, a visa must be obtained through the Libyan Embassy in Jakarta. Given conflicting practical reports, travelers should confirm current eligibility directly with the eVisa portal or a Libyan diplomatic mission before booking.
