🇮🇩INDONESIA🇮🇹ITALY (SCHENGEN)ID-IT Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit Italy (Schengen)?
Indonesian ordinary passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Italy for tourism. Indonesia is not on the EU visa-exempt list, so ETIAS does not apply. Italy is a Schengen Area member, and Indonesia is not among the countries whose nationals enjoy visa-free entry to the Schengen Area. An Indonesian ordinary passport holder must therefore obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before traveling to Italy for tourism. The visa permits stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen Area. Applications are lodged in person through the official VFS Global Italy Visa Application Centre in Jakarta after booking an appointment; the Embassy of Italy in Jakarta is the decision-making authority. The standard short-stay visa fee is EUR 90 (raised from EUR 80 in June 2024), plus a VFS service fee of about IDR 287,000. Mandatory documents include a passport valid at least 3 months beyond departure with two blank pages, travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, confirmed round-trip flights, accommodation, proof of funds and the completed application form. Standard processing is up to 15 calendar days but can run longer in peak season, so apply 3-6 weeks ahead. Because Indonesia is visa-required, ETIAS (the EU travel authorization launching in late 2026) does not apply to Indonesian nationals - they continue to need the full Schengen visa.
