Do Indonesia passport holders need a visa to visit Canada?
It depends. As of 26 May 2026, eligible Indonesian air travelers can use a CAD 7 eTA; everyone else still needs a visitor visa (TRV). Indonesian ordinary passport holders do NOT have visa-free access to Canada. However, effective 26 May 2026 Canada added Indonesia to its partial eTA (eTA-X) program. An Indonesian citizen flying to Canada (or transiting by air) can apply for an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA, CAD 7) instead of a visitor visa IF, at the time of application, they either (a) have held a Canadian temporary resident visa (TRV) within the past 10 years, OR (b) currently hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa. Travelers who meet neither condition, and ALL travelers arriving by land, bus, train or sea regardless of eligibility, must still obtain a standard visitor visa (TRV). The eTA is approved within minutes in most cases and is valid up to 5 years or until the passport expires. A visitor stay is normally up to 6 months (180 days). If you already hold a valid TRV, you can keep using it until it expires.
