Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit UG?

As of March 11, 2026, Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders can enter Uganda visa-free for tourism or business stays of up to 3 months. No visa or eVisa is required in advance. You only need a passport valid for at least 6 months, plus proof of onward travel and accommodation. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. Uganda announced its most expansive entry-policy liberalisation in recent history on March 11, 2026, granting visa-free access to nationals of 40 countries and territories, with Hong Kong SAR explicitly named on the list. Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders may now visit Uganda without a visa for tourism, business, or family visits for stays of up to 3 months. Notably, the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union member states were excluded from this round of liberalisation and their nationals still require a visa. For Hong Kong travelers, the previously required Uganda eVisa (USD 50, applied online at the official portal visas.immigration.go.ug) is no longer mandatory but remains available as an optional fallback. Travelers must still present a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, a return or onward ticket, and confirmation of accommodation. A valid yellow fever vaccination certificate is a hard entry requirement for all visitors to Uganda regardless of nationality. The visa-free stamp is granted by the immigration officer at the port of entry (Entebbe International Airport or land borders). Travelers wanting to also visit Kenya and Rwanda on the same trip can consider the East Africa Tourist Visa (USD 100, multiple entry, 90 days), though this is optional given the visa-free access. Always confirm current rules with the official Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control before travel, as reciprocal arrangements continue to evolve.
