Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit SI?
Holders of an ordinary HKSAR passport can travel to Slovenia visa-free for tourism, staying up to 90 days within any 180-day period across the entire Schengen area. No visa or pre-travel authorization is required as of 30 May 2026 (ETIAS is not yet mandatory). Slovenia is a full member of the Schengen area. Ordinary Hong Kong SAR passport holders are on the EU's visa-exempt list and may enter Slovenia and the wider Schengen zone without a visa for short stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period, for tourism, family visits, or business. The 90-day allowance is shared across ALL Schengen countries combined, not per country. No advance application is needed today. Note two operational changes: the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) became fully operational on 10 April 2026, so on arrival you register biometrics (fingerprints and facial image) instead of getting a passport stamp. The ETIAS travel authorisation (a roughly EUR 20 online pre-screening) is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 and become mandatory only in 2027 — it is NOT required for travel on 30 May 2026. Ensure your passport was issued within the last 10 years and is valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Schengen.
