🇵🇹PORTUGAL (SCHENGEN)HK-PT

Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit Portugal (Schengen)?

No visa needed. Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders can visit Portugal visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period as a Schengen short-stay visitor. Portugal is part of the Schengen Area, and holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport are exempt from the short-stay Schengen visa. You may enter Portugal and travel throughout the Schengen Area for tourism, business or family visits for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period without a visa. This is confirmed by both the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (which lists Hong Kong SAR passports as visa-exempt) and the Hong Kong Immigration Department. Your passport should be valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the last 10 years. Note the upcoming ETIAS travel authorisation: it is expected to begin operations in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional period afterwards, so it is NOT yet required as of 30 May 2026. Once ETIAS becomes mandatory, HK passport holders will need to obtain an approved online authorisation (fee EUR 20) before travel, but it remains visa-free. For trips longer than 90 days, work, study or residence, a national (long-stay) visa from the Portuguese authorities is required; Portugal short-stay tourist applications from Hong Kong are handled via the German Consulate General in Hong Kong.
