Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit MW?
HK ordinary passport holders can enter Malawi visa-free for short tourist stays. No visa is needed in advance; a visitor's permit is granted at the port of entry, generally for up to 90 days. Holders of the Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport do NOT need a visa to visit Malawi for tourism. Malawi appears on the official Hong Kong Immigration Department list of countries/territories granting HKSAR passport holders visa-free access or visa-on-arrival (list updated 13 April 2026), and Wikipedia's Visa policy of Malawi confirms Hong Kong remains visa-exempt for stays of up to 90 days. Malawi overhauled its visa regime effective 3 January 2026, moving to a reciprocal model where nationals of countries that admit Malawians visa-free for comparable short stays are normally admitted without a visa; Hong Kong continues to qualify under this regime. On arrival, an immigration officer issues a visitor's permit, commonly up to 90 days and extendable in-country. Travelers who do not qualify for visa-free entry (or who need longer/business stays) use Malawi's official e-Visa portal (evisa.gov.mw); a single-entry tourist e-Visa is around USD 75. Because Malawi's regime is reciprocal and was recently revised, travelers should re-confirm status close to departure, carry a passport valid at least 6 months with blank pages, and hold proof of onward travel and accommodation.
