Hong Kong (SAR China) to Mauritania visa requirements

Hong Kong ordinary passport holders need an e-visa to visit Mauritania. Since 5 January 2025, Mauritania has required all visa-required nationals to apply for an e-visa online before boarding their flight; visa-on-arrival without prior application and embassy sticker visas have been discontinued. As of 30 May 2026, Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders are not visa-exempt for Mauritania and must obtain an e-visa. Mauritania overhauled its visa system on 5 January 2025: it eliminated walk-up visa-on-arrival and embassy sticker visas, replacing them with a mandatory electronic visa that must be applied for online (via the National Agency for the Population Register and Secure Titles, ANRPTS) before traveling. Travelers complete the e-visa form and receive an electronic confirmation, then present the confirmation at check-in. The visa fee, typically EUR 55 (around USD 60), is collected in cash on arrival at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy International Airport, where biometrics (fingerprints and photo) are also captured. The standard tourist e-visa is single-entry, valid for a 30-day stay. Mauritania is in West Africa and is not part of the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers arriving from or transiting a yellow-fever risk country, and a passport valid at least six months with a blank page is needed. Because sources broadly agree the e-visa is now mandatory before boarding, the correct channel for an HK passport is an e-visa, not a true visa-on-arrival.
