Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit MD?
HK SAR ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for short tourist visits to Moldova. You may stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Moldova is not in the Schengen area, so the EU Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. Holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport enjoy visa-free entry to the Republic of Moldova. The exemption was established on 3 January 2014 and remains in force as of 2026. Visa-free visitors may stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period for tourism, transit, business or family visits. Moldova is NOT a member of the European Union or the Schengen Area, so the Schengen short-stay rules and the upcoming ETIAS authorisation do not apply to a trip to Moldova; the 90/180 calculation here is Moldova's own national rule. The passport must have been issued within the past 10 years and be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended date of departure from Moldova. No visa, no eVisa and no entry fee are required for stays within the visa-free limit; an eVisa exists only for nationalities that are not visa-exempt or for those who wish a different permit, and is not needed by HK passport holders. Travelers should carry proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, and sufficient funds, and may be asked for travel insurance at the border. For stays longer than 90 days or for work/study, a long-stay visa and residence permit must be arranged in advance.
