🇮🇹ITALY (SCHENGEN)HK-IT

Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit Italy (Schengen)?

Visa-free. HKSAR ordinary passport holders can visit Italy (a Schengen state) for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026. Holders of a Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport enjoy visa-free access to the Schengen Area, which includes Italy, for short stays of up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period for tourism, business or family visits. This is confirmed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department's official visa-free access list. No visa or pre-travel authorisation is required at present. The EU's ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) will eventually apply to visa-exempt nationals including Hong Kong, but it is not operational yet — the EU targets a phased rollout in late 2026 with mandatory use expected from 2027. As of today (30 May 2026), HKSAR passport holders may still travel to Italy without ETIAS. The 90/180 limit covers cumulative time spent across all Schengen countries combined, not just Italy. The passport should generally be valid for at least three months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area and issued within the previous 10 years.
