🇭🇰HONG KONG🇫🇷FRANCE (SCHENGEN)HK-FR Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit France (Schengen)?
No visa needed. HKSAR ordinary passport holders can enter France visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period under the Schengen short-stay rule. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026. Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders are exempt from the Schengen short-stay visa and may visit France (and the wider Schengen Area) for tourism, business or family visits for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. This is confirmed by both the French Consulate in Hong Kong and the HKSAR Immigration Department. The total of 90 days is shared across all Schengen countries, not per country. As of 30 May 2026, no advance online authorization is needed: ETIAS (the EU travel authorization for visa-exempt nationals) is still scheduled to launch only at the end of 2026 and is not yet operational, so any site claiming to sell it now is fraudulent. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which records biometrics at external Schengen borders, began rolling out in October 2025 and may apply at arrival, but it is not a visa or fee. Travelers should still carry proof of onward/return travel, accommodation, sufficient funds and travel insurance, as border officers may request them. Passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the planned departure from Schengen and issued within the last 10 years.
