Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit DJ?
HKSAR ordinary passport holders can enter Djibouti visa-free for up to 14 days for tourism. The Hong Kong Immigration Department officially lists Djibouti as a 14-day visa-free destination. For stays beyond 14 days (up to 31/90 days), an eVisa via the official portal (evisa.gouv.dj) or visa on arrival is available. A Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holder traveling to Djibouti for a short tourist visit does not need a visa for stays of up to 14 days. This is confirmed by the Hong Kong Immigration Department's official list of visa-free access for HKSAR passport holders, which records Djibouti at 14 days. For longer stays, Djibouti operates an electronic visa (eVisa) system launched in February 2018, processed through the official government portal evisa.gouv.dj, offering a Transit eVisa (1-14 days, USD 12) and a Short-Stay eVisa (15-90 days, USD 23). Visa on arrival is also available at Ambouli International Airport. Travelers should carry a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond entry, proof of onward/return travel, and accommodation details. Because Djibouti's broader exemption table does not always list Hong Kong explicitly, travelers planning to stay close to or beyond 14 days are strongly advised to obtain an eVisa before departure to avoid any uncertainty at the border. Djibouti is not in the Schengen area, so the 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply.
