🇭🇰HONG KONG
🇩🇪GERMANY (SCHENGEN)HK-DE

Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit Germany (Schengen)?

No visa needed. HKSAR ordinary passport holders can visit Germany visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day period as a tourist. Germany is part of the Schengen Area, and holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport enjoy visa-free entry to the entire Schengen zone for short stays. As confirmed by the German Consulate General in Hong Kong and the HKSAR Immigration Department, you may visit Germany for tourism, family/friend visits, or business meetings for up to 90 days in any rolling 180-day period without applying for a Schengen visa, provided you take up no employment. You must carry a passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure from the Schengen area and be able to show proof of sufficient funds, travel/medical insurance, and onward or return travel if asked at the border. The new EU travel authorisation, ETIAS, is NOT yet in force: the EU's official portal states ETIAS will begin operations only in the last quarter of 2026, followed by a transitional grace period, so no ETIAS is required for trips on or around 30 May 2026. Final entry is always at the discretion of the border police.
