Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit CL?
No visa needed. HK SAR ordinary passport holders can enter Chile visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days. Holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) ordinary passport do NOT need a visa to visit Chile for tourism or short business. Chile is included on the Hong Kong Immigration Department's official list of visa-free destinations with a permitted stay of up to 90 days, and Wikipedia's reciprocity table confirms "visa not required, 90 days." Chile is in South America, not the Schengen area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule and ETIAS do not apply here. On arrival, the Policia de Investigaciones de Chile (PDI) issues a paper Tourist Card (Tarjeta de Turismo) valid for the duration of the stay; keep it safe and surrender it on departure (lost cards can be replaced free via the PDI online platform). Travelers should hold a passport valid for the stay (6 months' validity beyond intended exit is the safe standard), an onward/return ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds for the visit. The 90-day tourist stay can be extended once for a further 90 days by paying a fee at a SERMIG immigration office inside Chile. There is no advance application, no government visa fee, and no eVisa/ETA requirement for a short tourist stay. Chile abolished its old "reciprocity fee" years ago and it does not apply to HK passport holders. Always reconfirm with the Chilean consulate or IATA shortly before travel as policies can change.
