Do Hong Kong passport holders need a visa to visit AF?

Holders of a Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport need a visa to visit Afghanistan, and as of March 2026 this is obtained as a tourist eVisa through the official e-Afghans portal before travel. There is no visa-free entry and no visa-on-arrival. Afghanistan launched an online tourist eVisa system in March 2026 through the official e-Afghans portal (eafghans.com/e-visa), replacing the previous embassy-only process for most visitors. Hong Kong SAR ordinary passport holders are eligible and are not on any of Afghanistan's restriction lists. The eVisa is single-entry, allows a stay of up to 30 days, and must be used within 90 days of issue. Currently the eVisa is accepted only for arrivals through Kabul International Airport (HKIA/KBL); land borders and other airports are not yet confirmed. The total cost is roughly USD 8 application fee plus about USD 120 visa fee. Processing typically takes 1 to 3 weeks, with same-day express sometimes available. Important context: the Hong Kong government and most foreign ministries advise against all travel to Afghanistan due to the security situation, so travelers should weigh safety, insurance, and consular limitations carefully. Israeli passport holders are barred; this does not affect HK passport holders.
