Q: Do I still need the Türkiye e-Visa?

No. The e-Visa requirement for UK tourist travellers was abolished from 2 March 2020. British Citizen ordinary passport holders do not need an e-Visa. Avoid third-party sites charging for one.

Q: What if I hold a BN(O) or British Subject passport?

The visa exemption applies only to full British Citizen ordinary passports. BN(O), British Subject, British Protected Person and diplomatic, official, service, or special passport holders must check visa requirements with Turkish authorities before travelling.

Q: What happens if I overstay?

You will face a fine payable on departure and may be banned from re-entering Türkiye for a period. Track your days carefully.

British citizens holding an ordinary passport do NOT need a visa or e-Visa to visit Türkiye for tourism. GOV.UK also states that British Citizen passport holders may visit without a visa for business or tourism. You may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This exemption is confirmed by both the UK government (GOV.UK travel advice) and the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Your passport must be valid for at least 150 days from your date of arrival and have at least one blank page. Note that this exemption applies ONLY to full "British Citizen" ordinary passports — holders of British National (Overseas), British Subject, British Protected Person, diplomatic, official, service, or special passports are not covered by this exemption and must check visa requirements with Turkish authorities before travel. The previous e-Visa requirement for UK tourist travellers was abolished from 2 March 2020 and remains lifted as of 2026; do not pay third-party sites offering a Türkiye "visa" you do not need.
