Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit RO?

UK ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa for Romania. You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. Romania has been a full Schengen member since 1 January 2025, so the Schengen 90/180 rule applies. ETIAS is not yet required (expected late 2026); the EES biometric registration is being rolled out at the border. A British citizen holding an ordinary passport can travel to Romania for tourism or a short visit without a visa. Romania became a full member of the Schengen area on 1 January 2025 (air and sea borders lifted in March 2024, land borders in January 2025), so a UK visitor may stay up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the entire Schengen zone. No advance application is required as of 31 May 2026. Two future systems affect UK travellers: the Entry/Exit System (EES) biometric border registration, which is being phased in and is free; and ETIAS, a travel authorisation expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 (estimated EUR 20, valid up to 3 years), which is NOT yet mandatory. Passport rules: the passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date of arrival and remain valid for at least 3 months after the intended departure from the Schengen area. Travellers should be prepared to show a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation and sufficient funds.
