Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit MD?

No visa needed. UK ordinary passport holders can enter Moldova visa-free for tourism for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. British (UK) ordinary passport holders do not require a visa for short tourist or business visits to the Republic of Moldova. They may stay visa-free for up to 90 days within any 180-day (6-month) period. This is confirmed by the UK government's official Moldova travel advice and Moldova's own visa framework. Moldova is NOT part of the Schengen Area, so time spent there does not count against any Schengen 90/180 allowance, and ETIAS does not apply. On entry, travelers should hold a passport valid for at least 3 months beyond their planned departure with at least one blank page, and be ready to show a return/onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and sufficient funds (border officers may ask for roughly EUR 30 per day, around EUR 300 for stays under 10 days). Arrival is automatically registered by Moldovan authorities; overstaying is penalized with fines and possible expulsion. For stays over 90 days, work, or study, a long-stay (Type D) visa and/or residence permit is required. Note that the breakaway Transnistria region applies its own informal entry controls. As an EU candidate country, Moldova continues to align its rules with EU practice, but as of 30 May 2026 visa-free short-stay access for UK citizens remains in force.
