Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit LV?
British citizens can visit Latvia visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism. No visa is needed before travel. Latvia is a member of the Schengen Area, and holders of an ordinary United Kingdom (British citizen) passport may enter for tourism or short visits without a visa for up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This allowance is shared across all Schengen countries combined, not per country. Your passport must have been issued within the last 10 years and remain valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. At the border you may be asked to show proof of accommodation, a return or onward ticket, travel insurance with health coverage, and sufficient funds. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is now operating, so British travellers will have fingerprints and a photo registered on first entry (free, valid 3 years). The European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is not yet required as of 31 May 2026; it is expected to launch in the last quarter of 2026 with a transitional period thereafter, after which UK travellers will need a EUR 20 ETIAS authorisation. Until then, no pre-travel authorisation is required.
