United Kingdom to Ireland visa requirements

British citizens do NOT need a visa, ETIAS, EES registration, or any prior authorisation to visit Ireland. Travel is governed by the Common Travel Area (CTA), which lets British and Irish citizens move, live, work and study freely between the two countries with no time limit. Ireland is not in the Schengen Area, so the Schengen 90/180 rule, EES and ETIAS do not apply. Carry a valid passport, as airlines and ferries generally require ID. A United Kingdom ordinary-passport holder enjoys visa-free, permission-free entry to Ireland under the Common Travel Area (CTA), a bilateral arrangement that predates EU membership and survives Brexit. British citizens may enter, reside, work, study and access services in Ireland without a visa, prior permission, residence permit or employment permit, with no fixed limit on length of stay for a tourist or short visit.
