🇬🇧UNITED KINGDOM🇪🇸SPAIN (SCHENGEN)GB-ES Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit Spain (Schengen)?
UK ordinary passport holders do NOT need a visa to visit Spain for tourism. They can enter the Schengen area (including Spain) visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. ETIAS is not yet required as of 30 May 2026. British citizens with an ordinary passport can travel to Spain for tourism, family visits or short business without a visa, staying up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period across the whole Schengen area. As of 30 May 2026 no pre-travel authorisation is required: ETIAS has not yet launched (expected last quarter of 2026, followed by a roughly six-month transitional period), so currently the only requirement is a valid passport meeting Schengen rules. The EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is operational, meaning British travellers register biometrics (photo and fingerprints) at the border at no cost. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before the date of entry and be valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area. Once ETIAS becomes mandatory (after Q4 2026), UK travellers will need to obtain an online travel authorisation costing EUR 20, valid for 3 years.
