Do United Kingdom passport holders need a visa to visit CY?
No. British citizens with an ordinary passport do not need a visa to visit Cyprus for tourism. You can stay up to 90 days in any 180-day period visa-free. A United Kingdom ordinary passport holder can travel to the Republic of Cyprus for tourism without a visa, staying up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Cyprus is a European Union member but is not yet part of the Schengen Area as of 2026, so its 90/180 allowance is counted separately from the Schengen total, giving UK travelers extra flexibility when combining a Cyprus trip with Schengen countries. There is no entry fee and no application is required for a short stay. At the border you may be asked to show a return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation, and evidence of sufficient funds. Your passport must have been issued less than 10 years before your arrival date and remain valid for at least 3 months after your intended departure, with at least one blank page for stamping. The Entry/Exit System (EES) being introduced across Schengen does not currently apply to Cyprus. The forthcoming ETIAS travel authorisation will eventually be required for Cyprus once the system goes live (planned for the last quarter of 2026); it is NOT in force as of 30 May 2026, so no ETIAS is needed for trips now. You must enter through legal ports of entry in the government-controlled south (Larnaca or Paphos airports, or the ports of Larnaca, Limassol, Latsi, and Paphos); entering via the north (e.g. Ercan airport) is treated as illegal entry by the Republic of Cyprus.
