Do France passport holders need a visa to visit MZ?

French passport holders do not need a traditional visa for a short tourist trip to Mozambique, but since April 2025 they MUST obtain a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online before departure. France is one of 29 visa-exempt countries that are now required to register and get an approved ETA prior to boarding. France is on Mozambique's list of 29 unilaterally visa-exempt nationalities for short tourist stays. However, visa-free no longer means "no online step." A notice published 24 April 2025 made the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) mandatory for legal entry, and Mozambique launched a new VFS Global-operated platform at evisa.gov.mz on 11 February 2026 (the old portal was discontinued). French citizens must register on evisa.gov.mz at least 48 hours before departure, receive an approved ETA, and present it on arrival. Airlines may verify the ETA before boarding. The permitted stay is up to 30 days, extendable once for another 30 days in-country. The associated fee of 650 MZN (about USD 10 / EUR 9) is collected on arrival. A traditional eVisa and visa-on-arrival also remain available as fallbacks, but for a France passport the ETA is the correct, lowest-cost channel for tourism. A yellow-fever vaccination certificate is required only if arriving from or transiting an endemic country. Sources broadly agree France is visa-exempt-with-ETA; one secondary aggregator listed France as needing a full eVisa, but the official portal, France-Visas, and multiple specialist trackers confirm the ETA channel, so the ETA verdict is used.
